Baidu reveals self-driving truck with Foton

Autonomous business automobiles are able to overtake traditional cars in the future

“The heavy deployment and execution of driverless commercial vehicles shall witness a boom as strong need is forecasted for non-price sensitive purchasers, generally company buyers,” stated Gu Weihao, general manager of Baidu Intelligent Vehicle, called the L3 Division of the internet company.

Formed in September at the Baidu World Conference 2016, the L3 Division intends to help automakers in automating and updating their items for autonomous executions.

Gu stated that although the nation’s development of self-driving industrial automobiles lagged behind other nations, the market scale has big capacity.

As per Gu, driverless business vehicles have lots of benefits, such as greater safety, energy cost savings, management and operation expense savings.

The company jointly worked with Foton Motor Group to reveal a driverless truck, which uses the newest connected-cars technologies made by the 2 companies.

Called as “super truck”, the vehicle is powered by both Baidu’s minimal self-driving automation and Foton’s driverless technologies and huge data of commercial automobiles.

The United States Department of Transport’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defined vehicle automation into five levels, the greater the level the more automated the automobile is.

L3, or Level 3, describes the Minimal Self-Driving Automation, which is anticipated to be offered for occasional control, however with adequately comfortable transition time.

Automobiles with level 4 in automation might be referred to autonomous automobiles.

As per the NHTSA’s standard, both occupied and empty vehicles who are qualified L4 or complete Self-Driving Automation, are designed to perform all safety-critical driving functions and display roadway conditions without human control for a whole trip.

The latest generation Google vehicle and Baidu’s newly tested driverless automobiles are examples of the L4 cars.

Baidu is gradually recognized as a software service provider for both vehicle makers and semiconductor makers in the industry.

The data polymerized by Baidu’s Learning Map platform and in-car telematics and entertaining applications, such as CarLife and CoDriver, will help drivers have a safer, more convenient and more affordable driving experience.

Currently, there are overall more than 60 vehicle producers working with Baidu to hit the market and over 150 vehicles are fitted with the company’s smart car software.
