According to BMW insiders, the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe might go on production soon. No specifics have been revealed yet and the car manufacturer has not mentioned a date for the launch.
Considering what was displayed during the Beijing Auto Show, the Gran Coupe production version might come in less than two years. Comparing the concept version in Beijing last month and the BMW concept Vision EfficientDynamics in Frankfurt back in 2009, the Gran Coupe concept features design lines which is closer to a production model. These BMWs will be marketed for 4-door coupe lovers who go for elegant but extravagant design going with the brand’s excellent interiors and impressive driving performance.
The Audi A7 and the CLS from Mercedes-Benz belongs to the same segment. The BMW Gran Coupe utilizes the same backbone as the 5 GT, 7 Series, and the 5 Series. It will also be available with 6- and 8-cylinder petrol versions as well as diesel engines. The engines will be coupled with an automatic transmission with 8 speeds.
The Gran Coupe will have a lower roofline, around 100 mm than the 7-Series. It will have a sporty character to live up to its goal of having the abilities of a sports car and a GT.
This upcoming BMW will feature design lines that we can expect in their future range of vehicles. The Gran Coupe Concept will have its European debut at the Motor Show in Paris this coming fall.
