There is a revolution in the offing as far as the process through which mainstream cars are engineered and built. This is being done by MCV that’s BMW Megacity Vehicle. Most part of the internal structure of this vehicle is going to be built using lightweight composite materials. Reinforced carbon-fiber plastic being one such composite material. The car however would be available only earliest by 2013 and later in the US market.
The BMW Megacity would however be available much earlier than that and as per information from inner sources it would be on show in a near ready condition during the 2010 Olympic Games which is to be held in London. BMW who are the official partners for this mega sporting event would sure use this opportunity to showcase their Megacity to the audience as also to inform them about its inherent qualities.
Dimensions of the car is expected to be in between the MINI Cooper and the 1-Series. The car is also hyped as a zero emission car. The car is a four seater and the rear axle driven car would be driven by a 134 hp electric motor that is supplied by lithium-ion batteries. It is also expected that a range-extended version of the car that would have a compact internal combustion engine would also be launched soon.
The price tag of the car is not expected to be a low one. There are photos of the car available and this depicts the reason for its cost.
