Stellantis said on Thursday that its French brand Citroen unit had been charged with consumer fraud by French prosecutors in a diesel emissions investigation.

Citroen would have to make a deposit of 8 million euros ($9.70 million) and provide a bank guarantee of 25 million euros ($30.30 million) for possible compensation for losses, according to Stellantis.

It said Citroen was checking its defense options.
