Daimler to hire 1,000 software programmers in Germany

Daimler will create 1,000 new jobs for software programmers at its S-Class production facility for developing its operating system for electric vehicles, according to a report by Automobilwoche on Sunday.

The hiring comes as part of a wider plan to recruit a total of 3,000 programmers globally for strengthening the automaker’s software hubs in centres including Tel Aviv, Seattle and Beijing.

Daimler’s MBOS system, which will operate electric-only vehicles, is expected to hit the market in 2024 as the automaker takes on electric automakers such as Tesla Inc and seeks to resist dominance by Silicon Valley into the automotive industry.

“With this system, Mercedes-Benz has the central control of all automobile domains and thus the consumer interfaces,” said Sajjad Khan, chief technology officer at Mercedes brand of Daimler.
