Vince Cable the Business Secretary of the Department of Business in UK who tried out a test drive in driverless car has flagged green for the driverless cars to run in public roads of UK. UK cities are open to bid for the trial run in their respective cities and out of it 3 cities are selected for hosting trial run which starts from January 2015 lasting for 18 to 36 months approximately. At present autonomous vehicle runs only in private roads, and the test on driverless cars have been performed by Oxford University and many other institutions supported them to bring them to the public roads.
The technology uses small cameras and lasers to memorize a regular route like school run, and to make it of low cost the research is being carried out. Driverless technology can be either with a qualified driver taking over the control or an autonomous vehicle without driver. On the word of Vince cable this announcement puts them forefront in transformational technology opening up new gates of their economy and society. Transport minister Claire Perry prefers driverless cars, can transform the transport network system improving safety and reducing congestion and emission of CO2. Regardless of the technology development the question of machine controlling man arises! People loving for self drive may hate the happening of giving the control to a computer.
