Five teenagers were killed after a ute crashed south-west of Sydney.

The crash took place when a Nissan Navara left the road and struck a tree in Buxton at about 7:50 pm yesterday.

The passengers included three girls, two of them aged 14 and a 15-year-old, and two boys, aged 15 and 16, all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, an 18-year-old man didn’t have life-threatening injuries.

He was arrested and admitted to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing. He is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

NSW Police will interview him when it is “practical”.

He had returned a negative alcohol breath-test at the scene, but results for his mandatory tests are still incoming.

Investigations so far suggested speed had been a factor in the crash.
