Ford Halts Genk Plant to move production to Spain

by SpeedLux

Ford has already made official that it will be shutting down its Genk plant, in Belgium, the main base for all the Europe-bound Ford manufactured cars and move production to Spain, starting from 2014.

Ever since the news broke out, a visible silence and anger has been building up among the plant’s workers, who have continuously protested the decision to close the plant. Now, production remains stopped at the plant and workers are the receiving end since the protest has continued unabated.

Workers blocked the nearby supply area, and blocked the delivery of parts to the plant. Around 100 workers gathered outside the city centre and held back three union leaders from leaving for three hours, until the police arrived and paved the way for the officials to leave safely.

The Belgian workers want more money, production to resume, while Ford says it is still in talks with plant officials on how to shift production elsewhere.

However, production is set to begin as Adrian Schmitz, spokesman for Ford Europe said: “We have an agreement with unions and are determined to implement that agreement to restart work at Genk.”

It is wait and watch for the workers since a decision is likely to be taken very soon.

Stay hooked and enjoy the beautiful pictures.
