Kentucky: Toyota celebrates 30 years

Thirty years ago, former Governor Martha Layne Collins and dignitaries from Toyota began on a factory in Georgetown. Today it remains among the state’s biggest private employers with over 8,000 employees.

“It’s a fantastic day to be in Georgetown and Scott County,” Georgetown Mayor Tom Prather stated.

Toyota commemorated its grand re-opening. This place is Toyota’s biggest manufacturer worldwide, and they want a minimum of 30 more years in Scott County.

“The way we speak about the next 30 years is amazing.”

Along with its celebration Toyota donated 100-thousand dollars to charitable companies throughout the state. A great portion of that money supports STEM programs for Scott County students.

“It encourages these young people,” Prather stated.

He states Toyota has been a great financial opportunity for Georgetown and Scott County. He hopes as Toyota continues to expand, the city booms too.

Toyota is creating a new engineering school. It’s anticipated to relocate 300 engineering jobs to Georgetown. The automaker has more strategies in the years to come.
