A major water leak that took place in central Japan on Wednesday had disrupted supply to more than 130 businesses near the production center of Toyota Motor.

The accident in Japan’s manufacturing heartland threatened interruptions at significant automakers and power companies.

A Toyota spokesperson said the automaker was using well water at its factories to deal with the shutdown.

JERA, Japan’s biggest power generator, said water supply had been stopped at two factories.

The significant leakage took place at the Meiji Irrigation Works earlier in the day, affecting the supply to the Anjo Water Treatment Plant in Aichi Prefecture.

The outage had affected supply to 131 businesses, largely in the automotive sector.
