Toyota Motor has decided not to restart production at its plant in Russia as it has not been able to see a stable supply of components, the Kommersant newspaper reported on Friday.

The report cited unnamed sources.

It was in March when the automaker suspended production in St Petersburg due to supply chain disruptions and stopped vehicle parts into Russia.

The factory produced the Camry and RAV4 models. It will be preserved and may be sold in the future, the report said.

The automaker has not decided to quit the Russian market. It sees no prospect of resuming car production there.

Toyota is yet to comment on this report.

Russia’s auto industry has been hit by Western sanctions imposed on Russia after the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensified on February 2022.
