Mazda and Fiat have both formally disclosed that a Mazda-made Alfa Romeo roadster will be produced from 2015.
Further news confirm that it will be developed for the global market and will be based on the Mazda MX-5.
The contract mentions that both Mazda and Fiat will make “two distinctly styled, dynamic and customer-conscious roadsters featuring rear-wheel drive.”
Each of them will be powered by the custom made engines. The Alfa Romeo open-top two-seater sports car will be manufactured from 2015 onwards at Mazda’s plant located in Hiroshima, Japan.
The future concept of the MX-5 is expected to lose 220 lbs (100 kg) and could come with a 4-cylinder, 1.3-liter turbocharged engine producing about 200 hp (149 kW).
Nothing yet is known about the car features, performance and other details so one has to wait till it gets publicized.
