New car sales in Russia in April dropped 78.5% year on year, contracting for the tenth month in a row, due to acute shortages and increasing prices caused by disrupted logistics.

New car sales of 32,706 cars in April were below one-quarter of those that were sold a year earlier, according to the Association of European Businesses (AEB).

Sales of new cars this year are expected to fall by at least 50%, the AEB said last month, following a 4.3% increase in 2021.

Sales of Lada cars by AvtoVaz in April dropped according to the data.

In the first four months of this year, Russia’s sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles declined 43% to 293,846 units.
