Development work continues on Porsche’s LMP1 sports prototype as the car has begun its testing on the international circuits.
Claimed to boast optimum efficiency while delivering maximum performance, the LMP1 sports prototype will compete in various races that include the World Endurance Championship (WEC), as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The company has hinted that the car will feature an advanced hybrid system that will eventually benefit road-going models.
Porsche’s LMP1 Vice President Fritz Enzinger was quoted saying, “The current test drives are enabling us to collect huge amounts of vital data; every single kilometer driven is important.” He further stated that in order to develop the highly complex LMP1 racing car so that it is fit to compete by the start of next year’s season, much more testing would be required. He even expressed his satisfaction on the current progress of the model.
The company did not reveal much detail about the model but is expected to be out soon as some part of testing is done. As of now, Porsche’s LMP1 team consists of four members, namely, Neel Jani, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Mark Webber.
