Rendering the 2012 Audi R4

by Alex

Talk about the R4 from Audi appeared to be all win with no force but that was proved otherwise when Audi unveiled their second e-tron concept car. The uniqueness of this car as far as its design goes had even been stated by the automaker itself as a possibility only. There are computer generated renderings of the R4 now and this is expected to go into production by next year.

The R4 would be built on a new platform altogether and may appear in both coupe and roadster styles by looks. It is being designed to be a model that fits between an R8 and the TT. It would be a two seater as the Audi R8. Audi is in the process of developing a brand new chassis of aluminium which would give it an aggressive style. The kerb weight would be around 2,500 and a mid engine would most probably be fitted in the car. The car would have a Quattro all wheel drive.

Not being exclusively a sports car alone the R4 would have number of options for its engine installed. The high end model may have a high output forced induction engine that would develop 300 hp or more. There would be the diesel model and the all electric version too.

The top range model on the other hand would have a supercharged six cylinder engine which would be similar to the 2010 Audi S4 installed engine. The R8 has an engine that delivers 420 hp. It could therefore be expected that the R8 engine would develop a bit lower than that at about 333 hp. The TT and the R8 would be kept apart by the looks.

Acceleration is expected to be 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds flat with top speeds of 155 mph that would be electronically limited.
