Production of the current generation of RS6 would come to an end by the end of the third quarter of this year as had been announced by Audi. Audi plans to first launch the A6 next year and only after that will the German car maker will turn its attention to the RS6 again. It would therefore be another couple of years before the RS6 enter the production line and be seen on the roads once again. Meanwhile, the A6 would most probably be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
The RS6 from Audi in its present format has a twin turbo V10 engine producing 580 hp and 650 Nm of torque. The next RS6 would however have a twin-turbo V8 engine which would have a power output in the range of 550 to 600 hp.
Audi plans to use a mix of material for the structure of the Audi A6. The material would be such that it provides for structural rigidity as well as impact protection. Aluminum being the major material used while there would be use of steel and foam reinforcements as well. It would in turn give improved handling, fuel economy to the car as well as lower emission levels. The design and looks would resemble the Audi TT which bears a sportier look and style. The front and rear sub-frames are going to be made of lightweight material and have a new look being designed by Audi themselves. This would in turn give added strengthening factor to the integral parts of the chassis which is as it is light weight.

It’s a shame it’s going to take so long for the next RS6 to come out. They should really bring it out around a year after the launch of any new model. Look what they have done with the RS3, they are bringing it out one year before the new version of the A3 is relased. After paying over £40,000 for a car it will be outdated in 12 months and possible soon by the time you get it. It just doesn’t make sense.
