There are reports which indicate that Subaru intends to launch its first hybrid production model at the forth coming New York auto show.
Sources say that this hybrid production car from Subaru will be sold not only in Japan but also in the United States.
It will utilize an in-house mild hybrid system which could be a follow-up to the firm’s Hybrid Tourer concept showcased in 2009 at the Tokyo Motor Show. The vehicle will not be capable of running exclusively on electric power.
To remind everybody the concept features a 2.0-liter direct-injection boxer engine connected to two electric motors producing 10 kW and 20 kW (front / rear), respectively.
The motor in the front is used as a generator to power the vehicle’s electrical system while the one at the rear powers the car when the engine is not needed. These motors get their absolute power from a lithium-ion battery which are recharged during braking and coasting.
We haven’t heard anything regarding the car’s performance, features and engine specifications till now, but the same will up for grabs at the New York auto show. Subaru officials expect its hybrid model would be a bespoke one and would appeal to the masses.
Till then let us wait and enjoy the picture gallery.
