Competing with big players in the fast car scene, Subaru is up against the might of cars like, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW and Porsche.
Subaru has announced that their Subaru Impreza WRX STI Sedan has recorded a Nurburgring time of 7’55’’00 and therefore qualifies to be called the fastest WRX STI Ever. This is the fastest recorded lap to be performed by a Subaru ever till now. The last best of the Subaru has been 7:59.41 which it had set in 2004 and has proved to be faster than any of the big names mentioned above. The car is still is in prototype stage but has impressed everyone with its agile performance.
Tommi Makinen the driver of the car during the test race stated that the car balanced well with good all round stability and handling. He attributed this to the refined suspension of the car. “The car was really controllable with precise and faithful handling even on tricky corners. I could easily predict a next behavior of the car, that is, I confirmed its evolved total driving control ability. Subaru’s renowned Symmetrical AWD system also greatly contributed to this performance. The outstanding achievement is not only a tribute to Subaru’s continued and earnest efforts, but also an evidence of confidence in driving a Subaru,” said Tommi Makinen while praising the over all outstanding performance of the car.
The previous best lap that was set in 2004 by a Subaru WRX STI of 7:59.41. The new time set by the new STI with a quicker than any of the aforementioned competition. The car is still a prototype, but the time is still hugely impressive.
The car is powered by a 305 hp turbocharged intercooled 4 cylinder Boxer engine. It also has a 6-speed manual transmission and a lower ride height and new pillow-ball. The suspensions that have been applauded by Makinen include higher rate springs for both the front and rear suspension. The spring rates has increased by 15.6 percent in front and an impressive 53 percent in the rear.
