There is no questioning that Tesla Motors and its creation, the Model S, are one of the world’s most feared tandems. In fact, perhaps it is the only tandem feared by other automakers around the world. Now, taking into account the success of its original Model S vehicle model, the US company has decided to build yet another automaker, this time it will be known as the Model S 70D and it will be designated towards the entry level customers.
This new entry level model from the US marquee is set to take the place of the S 60, a Tesla vehicle that features a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) drivetrain and costs $71,070. However, the new model will be slightly more expensive than its predecessor since it comes with a host of upgrades. For the S 70D, buyers will have to spend $75,000. Unlike the S 60 that comes with a single motor unit, the new model comes with dual electric motors, yielding a total power output of 514 bhp. In addition, the car can now go as far as 386 km on a single charge, compared to a total distance of 335 km on the predecessor. The battery is also bigger now with a total capacity of 70 kWh.
Acceleration is yet another factor that has also improved over the outgoing S 60 model. The S 70D needs only 5.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h. The car will keep on gaining speed until it reaches the limit at 225 km/h. In comparison, the predecessor takes 5.9 seconds for 0-100km/h acceleration and its top speed is rated at 190 km/h.
The new entry level Model S 70D from Tesla Motors is already available for order. Customers keen on buying the vehicle will get to choose from three exterior paint jobs, which are, Warm Silver, Obsidian Black and Ocean Blue. Shipment of the vehicle will reportedly begin this May.
