Tesla has canceled three online recruitment events for China scheduled this month, the recent development after CEO Elon Musk threatened job cuts at the electric automaker, saying it was “overstaffed” in some regions. Though he didn’t mention China.
The automaker canceled the three events for positions in sales, R&D and its supply chain which were scheduled for June 16, 23 and 30, notifications on messaging app WeChat showed without providing a reason.
The China operation is still permitting resume submission for over 1,000 openings posted on the social media platform, such as aerodynamics engineers, supply chain managers, store managers, factory supervisors and workers.
Production at Tesla’s Shanghai plant was negatively impacted after the Chinese commercial hub started a two-month COVID-19 lockdown late in March.
Output is set to decline by over a third this quarter from the earlier one, outpacing Musk’s prediction.
