Tesla, a US-based electric vehicle manufacturer, has made an official announcement regarding its plan for the future. This plan will make life a lot easier for customers of the US brand.
According to Tesla, in the future, owners of the vehicles it develops will not have to wait for just a few minutes to get the battery of their electric vehicle fully charged. This is going to be possible, thanks to a new battery swap pilot program which the company is planning to start rolling out in the coming week.
The US automaker reveals that invited owners of the Tesla Model S will be among the first to have the privilege of taking advantage of this new program. All they will have to do is simply to drive their car to a custom facility owned by the company. This facility is located just across the company’s California supercharging station at Harris Ranch. There, these Tesla Model S owners will have their car battery replaced with a fully charged one.
As for now, the company is not spilling all the beans yet. However, it does reveal that the cost to get a fully charged battery at the aforementioned custom facility will be slightly cheaper than having to purchase a fully filled gasoline tank for a sedan. The company has also made clear that to take part in the battery swap pilot program, owners of its vehicles must first make an appointment.
It takes three minutes for the battery replacement operation to complete and according to Tesla, this is due to the new aluminum and titanium shields used as the battery pack. Nonetheless, this particular automotive brand from the US believes that the replacement time will decrease as time goes by and in the end, it will not even reach one mere minute.
Tesla is also considering making this pilot program available in more areas. However, this will only be true if the current program proves to be a huge success.
