Toyota still holds popularity crown in some sense
The world’s leading auto company in terms of sales for the year 2016 was German automaker Volkswagen beating other rival companies. But beating it on another category was the Japanese automaker Toyota.
As per a report it was the most searched car brand on the internet last year. The source providing the data is a United Kingdom based company Quickco that deals with sales of car parts. They gathered the data to be noticed by people worldwide. The data collected presents a map of the world with frequently searched auto brands in every country. The countries in which there is no car brand noted are those, which have strict internet usage regulations.
The popular brands searched in majority of the countries were Toyota and Honda. BMW was prominent in Europe and Chevrolet in Central and South America. The people in the southern tip of Africa had a liking for Mercedes Benz as per the data. In Niger were the GDP is $420 people searched for Bugatti which is an expensive luxury car. Audi was most searched for French Guiana and Jaguar in Belize.
One point though, to be noted is that this data has some discrepancies when compared with the data posted on Google in 2016. As per that site last year Honda was the most searched car brand in US and not Toyota. Though Toyota has prominence in the US market it still didn’t rank in the top 10 list as per the data, which is confusing. The data couldn’t be compared with Quickco numbers since Google doesn’t include brand searches made on it.
