Toyota Motor stated it will expand the advancement of its gasoline-hybrid innovation over the next five years to accelerate the introduction of lower-emission engines in the face of stricter worldwide emissions requirements.

The statement by the automaker focused on making cars “greener” as global car manufacturers deal with tighter regulations in China, the United States and other places that will require more environment-friendly automobiles in the coming years.

Toyota is also stepping up the advancement of longer-range battery-electric automobiles, in a shift from an earlier method of promoting hydrogen fuel-cell innovation as the future of zero-emission vehicles.

“We have to take an aggressive approach to deal with changing regulations,” stated Toshiyuki Mizushima, president of Toyota’s powertrain division.

Toyota stated it would broaden personnel on its hybrid technology making team by 30 percent through 2021, by that time it aims to present 19 new lower-emission powertrain components made on its recently presented common production platform.

By 2021, about 60 percent of Toyota automobiles sold in Japan, the United States, Europe and China will feature new elements which will lower co2 emissions by 15 percent or more compared to the typical quantity of emissions of vehicles sold in 2015, Toyota stated.
