Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Shooting Brake Concept to be displayed at the Geneva show

by Alex

News last month indicated about a very different Ferrari that would be up on display at the Geneva Motor Show scheduled to be held in March 2011. The only piece of information then though was an ambiguous description of the car given by the company boss Luca de Montezemolo.

Talk indicated that the car could be a replacement for the 612 Scaglietti and would have the Ferrari’s latest HY-KERS hybrid technology incorporated into it. However latest reports indicate that this could be a completely new model altogether.

Inside sources have stated that Ferrari would be giving a shooting brake concept based on the current 612 Scaglietti and this source has revealed the same to AutoExpress. Ferrari aims to achieve two issues with this unit. One being a check on how far the car is liked even when it is away from its traditional makes. The second, as a mark to end production of the 612 model.

Statement from the inside source reads: “We know there can never be a Ferrari SUV, but we would like to find out what we can put the marque’s DNA into and still have it accepted as a Ferrari.”

The model is in reality a hatchback based coupe. This design gives more versatility for low slung two door makes. It would also make the four seater 612 Scaglietti one of the most practical Ferrari as yet. Ferrari would have to test the waters with the design and giving the customers something different than the 612.
