Ferrari’s revolutionary new four-seater, all-wheel drive FF

by Alex

The replacement from Ferrari for the 612 Scaglietti model is finally here after much hype and expectations. The concept of this car comes from the well known Maranello, thus in turn increasing the expectations from the upcoming car. The car will be called the Ferrari Four aka FF. The FF is all set to become one of the most versatile models that the company has ever produced. A four seater with ample luggage space, the car is equipped with an all wheel drive system and a shooting brake body style. This year’s March edition of The Geneva Motor Show will see the release of the much awaited car.

The mega sized sports car will be measuring at 4,907 mm in length, 1,953 in width and 1,379 mm in height. The elongated roof line, the styling of the rear portion and the car’s various proportions are the highlights of this model designed by Pininfarina and reminds one of the BMW Z3 Coupe.

The Prancing Horse Company has not yet released any images of the car’s interiors and the designs inside. But the FF is tipped to comfortably seat four people along with their luggage. The car will have a total space of 450 liters with all the four passengers to seat. If the rear seats are folded back the space increases to about a 800 liters, which is quite enough for a sports car.

Ferrari has also added a few personalization features to the car as well along with many Ferrari Four accessories. The accessories will include six model specific exterior colors and interior trims.

Well this was all about the exteriors of the car. Now what is there on the other end of the expansive hood? This will be the first Ferrari car that will have the production version of Four Wheel Drive System. The drive system called the 4RM will be weighing half as much as the conventional drive system and hence in turn will produce a perfect weight distribution for the car i.e. [47:53].

The auto makers from Italy have also released other information and details about the car. The company has stated that the car will give the highest level of performance on all sorts of terrains and in all weather condition be it scorching hot or shivering cold with the help of the intelligent predictive torque system which will distribute equal torque to all the wheels.

The Ferrari Four will be based on the brand new 6.3 liter V12 engine with the function of direct injection. No doubt the car will run like no other Ferrari has before. The hardware under the hood will have 12 cylinder motor delivering a whopping power output of 660 HP at rotation rates of 8,000 rpm. The car is also equipped with a dual clutch F1 gearbox. The car is all ready to rev up to a speed of 100 km/h (equivalent to 62 mph) in a smothering time of 3.7 seconds on level ground. The car with the accelerator at its best gives a speed of 335 km/h which is equivalent to a mind boggling 208 mph. The car is also low on fuel consumption which is of the order of 15.4 lt/100km, something that translates to 15.3 mpg in US terms. The car has a CO2 emissions rate of 360 g/km.

The car though is a bit on the hefty side with a weight of 1,790 kg or 3,946 pounds. However, most of that is nullified thanks to the bullish V12 engine under the hood so that the car has a standard weight-to-power ratio of 2.7 kg/hp.

The car will also have the latest magnetorheological damping system (SCM3) which will be a breakthrough for this car. As fast as it accelerates the better it can slow itself down with the carbon ceramic brakes from Brembo.

When the car finally shows off at the Geneva Motor Show in March further details will be released. But until then we sign off with a lot of pictures and videos of the car in our gallery. Check them out and don’t forget to tell us how you feel about this upcoming wonder car from the Italian makers.
