An unusual situation unfolded late in the going during the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen, when Derrike Cope’s automobile took off without caution.

With 23 of 82 laps staying, Derrike Cope slowed on the track and was cruising through the bus stop when it appeared something blew up under the hood of his No. 70 Chevrolet. He was not injured.

A NASCAR spokesman confirmed the sanctioning body was impounding the car and would examine it back at its research study and advancement center in Concord, N.C.

“In my 35 years of racing, I’ve never ever experienced anything like that,” stated Cope after being evaluated and launched from the infield care center. “It exploded in my face.”
