Bloomberg reports that Volkswagen has accorded approval to Bugatti for building the 16C Galibier sedan model. The information has been obtained by the magazine from two confirmed sources. The Galibier had been displayed in its concept form at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show event. Cost of the car was estimated to be around €1 million or $1.4 million with a power pack of an earth shattering 1000 hp.
Wolfgang Duerheimer, who heads both Bugatti and Bentley had been emphasizing on approval for production of the Galibier ever since having taken charge. The ultra luxurious sedan would be built at the Molsheim factory in France. This is the same site where the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is currently made.
There would be need to update the facility for this new model so expected delivery of the cars could be set at 2013 or 2014. For engine the car would have the 8.0 liter 16 cylinder engine having two stage supercharging. This is the same engine that is fitted on the Veyron 16.4. There would be the option of running the engine on ethanol in case of the Galibier.
Like the Veyron 16.4 this one also would be a flour wheel drive unit and the Veyron 16.4 would stop being manufactured once the Galibier production commences.
The Veyron had been started in 2005 with 50 units being built every year and the total number of units to be made was limited to just 300 making the car exclusive in nature.
