Two people are dead after a serious truck crash that shut down part of the Long Island Expressway for over eight hours on Monday.
The accident took place at 5:05 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the expressway at the Shelter Rock Road overpass in North Hills, Nassau County, New York.
A delivery truck struck head-on into a bridge abutment and rolled onto its side.
The truck was badly damaged.
The driver and the only passenger of the truck, both men, were declared dead at the scene.
All eastbound lanes were shut at New Hyde Park Road as police investigated and crews worked to remove the damaged truck.
The roadway reopened just after 1 p.m., but the drivers were cautioned about heavy residual delays.
