News had it that Ford was in the process of coming out with their all electric version of the Focus subcompact model which is one of the latest generation cars from the company. Facebook page of the company has also displayed some teaser images that the company has pasted there. It shows the cars plug in port located on the front fender. The company has also intimated there would be more news on the car and big ones at that during the coming weeks.
A statement from FoMoCo reads: “On Friday at 11 AM PST, CEO Alan Mulally will have big news from the 2011 International CES in Las Vegas. We’ll broadcast his keynote address on a Livestream tab on this page and have exclusive technology news every hour leading up to his address.”
Ford had previously announced that this all new focus electric model would be available in the market in late 2011 for the US and in Europe it would be 2012. The retooled site of Ford at Michigan Assembly Plant was to be the site where the car would be made. The range of the car has been announced as 100 mile or 160 km.
In the next three years Ford plans to come out with five electric model cars of which this one the focus electric is one. There is the Transit Connect Electric small commercial van that the company plans to introduce by late 2010 and then the plan is to go ahead with two next generation hybrid electric cars. This would include one plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in North America in 2012 and Europe in 2013.
