So far, all that we’he heard about the new seven-speed manual gearbox is that’s been introduced with the 2012 Porsche 911. However, the Geman manufacturer decided to give us some additional information by releasing a video in which it talks about the new 7 speed manual transmission and the optional PDK gearbox in the 2012 911 (991).
The manufacturer describes its new seven-speed this way: gears 1 to 6 for sportier driving in the lower gears and that the top speed is reached in 6th gear, while the 7th gear has a long ratio and it ensure low engine speeds even when travelling at high speed for long distances. This one help curb fuel consumption when cruising on the highway.
The automaker from Stuttgart says that the optional PDK dual clutch gearbox also has 7 gears, and that apart from concentrating on offering relatively low fuel consumption figures, it also guarantees the best acceleration with no interruptions.
We’ll have to wait until the debut of the manual-equipped 2012 Porsche 911 to determine whether this is a good move, but until then you can watch the video below. Enjoy it and stay tuned for new details.
