Also released at the Detroit Auto Show this year, the new S4 certainly draws some attention. Although it is merely an enhanced A4, the 2013 S4 deserves a fair review.
Its power comes from a new supercharged 3.0-liters V6 engine that delivers 329 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to this great engine (110 horsepower/liter) the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds, and gets to an electronically limited 155 mph top speed (better than the usual 130 mph in the previous models).
The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, although the buyer can opt for a 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. The manual one also handles great, so you can go either way.
The new, sportier adaptive suspension has more rigid dampers and springs. It’s being controlled by the ADS together with the dynamic steering, engine and throttle responses.
All of the new S4s come with electric power steering, which automatically adjusts the car’s steering angle in banks. This system does its job well, and it is a nice touch from the German car manufacturer. The gizmos on the inside include the new, simpler Multi Media Interface with a wifi hotspot and 3D Google SAT-NAV graphics by using the incorporated Bluetooth connection. There are 5 seats, arranged in a 2+3 system.
This fine car can become a great one if you choose your extra features wisely. The new CC is expected to go on sale sometime this year.
