Later, around 2:30 a.m., while attempting to block traffic, a vehicle failed to stop and hit another cruiser.
Two deputies were inside the cruiser. They were identified as Deputy Jonathon Rand and Deputy Joy DeSomber, after becoming entrapped in the vehicle.
They were also admitted to MUSC with serious injuries.
Savannah Highway was closed for some hours while crews investigated the crashes.
