7 killed after wrong-way car crash in Northern Illinois

Seven people, including five children, were killed after a two-car crash in Northern Illinois on Sunday.

Both vehicles were completely engulfed in flames following a wrong-way driver resulted the head-on crash around 2 a.m. local time on Interstate 90 in McHenry County.

Another person with injuries was flown to the hospital.

The confirmed fatalities include one woman in the first car, as well as one woman and five children in the second.

In the first car, the dead was identified as Jennifer Fernandez, a 22-year-old woman from Carpentersville.

In the second car, the driver was identified as Thomas Dobosz, a 32-year-old man from Rolling Meadows who was injured. One of the victims in this car includes a 31-year-old identified as Lauren Dobosz, while the other victims ranged in age from 5 to 13.

The westbound lanes of I-90 near milepost 33 were closed after the crash and were later reopened.

Illinois State Police investigated the crash.
