A 23-year-old Missouri graduate has been detained on suspicion of burglary and property damage after he drove his Volkswagen Passat into Mizzou Arena and onto the basketball court, as per MUPD representative Brian Weimer.
The suspect’s name is Nathaniel Conant, who is listed as an events assistant for the SEC Network in the Mizzou student directory. He turned himself in 12 hours following the occurrence. Cops think he did an approximated $100,000 worth of damage.
The arena is an indoor arena situated the south side of the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia.
“Nothing happened to the court,” stated Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin on Monday. “There’s really no damage [to the court] it’s more like a couple of gates and a garage door [that got harmed] however absolutely nothing happened to the floor.”
Exactly why Conant supposedly decided to go on an unlawful joyride inside an SEC basketball arena remains uncertain. However it doesn’t seem like the kind of thing a sober individual would do. In either case, like Martin stated, this should have no result on the freshmen season of Michael Porter Jr., who is predicted to be the No. 1 choice in the 2018 NBA Draft. However it’s still a less-than-ideal development for a university that is not gaining students, and thus money, in substantial numbers.
