Two people died after a car flipped over into the water in west Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday.
Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin said the incident took place around 5 p.m. when a woman driving on the ramp from Dublin Road to Interstate 670 east stopped to help when she observed someone climbing over the concrete barrier.
Columbus police said that the individual climbing over the barrier was the driver of the vehicle that was in the water.
The driver told the woman he lost control, flipped over the wall, and went down the embankment, ending up on the top of the car in the water.
Martin said police officers attended the scene and found three people still in the car.
The officers were able to get one person out.
When firefighters attended the scene, they helped get the other two people out and the medics took the three people and the driver to the hospital.
One person who was in the car died at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and another died at Grant Medical Center.
Police said the other two were listed in stable condition at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Police said the ramp from Dublin Road to I-670 East will be shut down for several hours.
The factor behind the crash is under investigation.
