Three people were killed after a vehicle crash on Interstate 75 on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said the crash took place in Marion County at mile marker 337, about a mile north of the Sumter County line and four miles south of Marion County Road 484.

As of 5:15 p.m., southbound traffic was moving, but only one northbound lane was open.

The crash took place when a dump truck and a Subaru car were traveling southbound on I-75 while a Dodge pickup truck with a trailer and a Chevrolet SUV were northbound before the dump truck and the Subaru came across the median and guardrail and into the northbound traffic.

The impact resulted in multiple collisions.

Both the dump truck and the Subaru were engulfed.

FHP officials said the northbound lanes were blocked due to debris and vehicles.

The pickup driver, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also killed on the scene include an occupant in the Chevrolet SUV and an occupant of the dump truck.

The crash is under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol.
