Toyota drops diesel from new model

Toyota has chosen to drop diesel motors from its new C-HR compact following Volkswagen‘s emissions scandal and will probably do the very same for future model renewals, the automaker’s second-ranking global executive stated on Thursday.

The Japanese car manufacturer decided “within the last six to 12 months” not to provide a diesel variation of the automobile, revealed at the Paris auto show, because demand for the powertrain technology is falling sharply, Executive Vice President Didier Leroy informed Reuters in an interview.

If confronted with a renewal decision, for other models up to and consisting of the larger Auris compact, a Toyota staple, “we would most likely do the same thing”, Leroy added.
