In the attempt to break the eight-second barrier at the drag strip, Jeff Evans loses control of his car and crashes it, bouncing off two walls in the process.
The car campaigns in the True Street class with a 950-horsepower, turbocharged B-Series engine under the hood with a 67-millimeter Borg Warner turbo shoving 35 psi of boost down the intake.
This is a strong car. Evans lost control of it on his third pass of the day shortly after crossing the quarter mile line, narrowly missing the EG Honda Civic in the next lane.
Only later he was informed that he had managed to run an 8.98-second quarter mile at 167 miles per hour, which was good enough to earn him a record in his class.
Well, I suppose there is a price to pay for everything. These risks exist and are very present at every event of the kind, that being the reason for which every detail is secured, but appearently things like these happen. We sure do hope these kinds of issues will find a solution soon enough, in order for us not to hear about similar accidents again.
