Twin car bomb explosions targeting Somalia‘s Education Ministry building have killed at least 100 people and injured more than 300 others, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday and the fatalities are likely to rise.
Several government offices, hotels and restaurants exist near the bombing site.
An unknown number of people, including journalists and police officers were among the casualties.
The al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab extremist group has claimed the responsibility.
The blasts took place as the Somali president and leaders of the federal member states were having meetings to discuss ongoing offensive operations against al-Shabab.
