Only recently, an official representative for the General Motors, or GM for short, has made the official announcement, revealing that the US-based company will be using the Corvette C7 as the base for its future vehicle models. According to the representative, the design of the C7 will heavily influence the visual styling of its future cars.
This information has come from Ed Welburn himself, unveiled in his recent interview with the Automotive News. In case you are not quite familiar with the name, Welburn is the global design chief at GM. Welburn thinks it is the right call to use the design language applied on the company’s Stingray on its future vehicle lineups. He also reveals that some of the very first models to receive the visual styling a la the Chevy Corvette Stingray C7 will include the Volt, Cruze and also the Malibu. In addition to that, Welburn also reveals that customers will notice a new styling of the hood of the Corvette. Welburn describes the new styling as being taut, very lean and also very sporty.
The plan unveiled by the global design chief at GM is actually a bit ironic. You see, the squared-off taillights which you can find on the C7 is actually criticized quite heavily by dozens of people out there, including fans of the US automotive brand. Yet, Welburn is still going to use such a design in the future. Nonetheless, he claims that the design will be applied on the company’s future vehicles in a way that is very positive. Well, perhaps Welburn has a point as he is not alone in this case. Alan Batey, the global boss at Chevrolet, also claims that the modifications to the aforementioned styling will help the company to deliver a stunning design which customers will love.
Well, to prove Welburn’s and Batey’s claims, there is not much waiting to do. The next generation Chevy Volt is set to appear next month at the upcoming NAIAS event in Detroit. In addition to that, the next generation Chevy Malibu will make its debut just a few months later.
