Chevy Camaro Dragster’s Rear Axle Completely Snapped Off During Race [Video]

by Will Parker

Dragster racing can prove pretty dangerous in some circumstances considering that in this sort of competitions particiaptes many powerful car driven by men more or less experienced.

This time we can’t blame the driver because this incident is due to a technical problem. This serious mechanical failure led to one of the scariest things that can happen to a racer on the drag strip (or during any motorsport-related event, for that matter), taking into account that that even the slightest problem can have disastrous consequences when you’re moving at high-speeds.

The video below shows how for the driver of this first generation Chevrolet Camaro dragster, it all started with the first run when he lost control of the car and hit the sidewall. However, this sort of things aren’t so unusual on a rece track. But here comes the biggest mistake, because the driver and/or his team did not take a look or they failed to see that the car suffered significant damages when it collided with the cement wall.

When we said “the biggest mistake” we were serious because as a result, during the second run, the rear axle completely snapped off!

Fortunately for the driver, it all went down about a second after he began accelerating, because if this happened a few seconds later, he would have been in serious trouble.
