The Daytona Beach Police Department might have been the target of anti-police reaction early Sunday early morning when somebody firebombed an empty squad car parked in front of a mosque and left a note close to the destroyed vehicle attributing the incident to Black Lives Matter.
As per Police Chief Mike Chitwood, the act happened about 2 a.m. That’s when someone set fire to the cruiser parked outside the Islamic Center at 347 S. Keech St. The automobile was engulfed in flames and ruined.
Chitwood said authorities discovered a note at the scene that states “Black Lives Matter A. Sterling P. Castile (Expletive removed) the politce.”
It was not yet clear what was used to burn the vehicle, however Chitwood said he presumes the perpetrators used a Molotov mixed drink. He stated the firebombing triggered over $20,000 in damage to the car.
Imam Belal Alzuhiry Shemman, the Islamic Center’s spiritual leader, could not be reached.
One person who lives in the area and asked not to be recognized, informed by means of email that by the time fire units showed up the automobile was in flames.
Chitwood stated the police department began stationing the car outside the Islamic Center occasionally last month on June 12, now known as the day of Orlando club shooting, to secure it against anti-Islamic reaction in the wake of the massacre that murdered 49 (50 including the attacker).
