In case you have yet to notice, the luxury German brand, Audi, is working on the Q1. Today, the company has once again confirmed that the car will be launched in the year 2016. Just so you know, there is no need to doubt this information as it has come from Rupert Stadler, the chief of the company, himself. This information comes at an annual conference in which Audi also takes the liberty of announcing its Q6 electric vehicle (EV) and Q8.
According to Stadler, the Q1 is still well on track to be released next year. The car will be taking advantage of the MQB chassis, only shortened. The car will reportedly come with a size similar to that of the German marquee’s A3. After all, the engines of the Q1 will reportedly be derived from the Audi A3 as well. However, of course, the Q1 will sit at a higher position when compared to the A3. In addition to that, the Q1 is also going to come with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) drivetrain as standard. Yet, for customers wanting more, they can always purchase the company’s Quattro system optionally.
In terms of the design of the vehicle, it had mostly been completed before Marc Lichte took over the Q1 project. Nevertheless, the guy still manages to add some of his personal touches to the model. Now, the petite crossover is more likely to attract younger buyers.
According to sources that are close to the luxury German automotive brand, the Audi Q1 has been given production green light. The German company sees that small premium models are receiving increased demands. Report has it, the production of the Audi Q1 will take place at the company’s plant in its home country, Ingolstadt, Germany. The car is most likely to come with a price tag higher than the Audi A1, it is said. Audi also has a plan to release a range-topping model, dubbed the SQ1, during the lifespan of the Q1. This one may prove to be a more frugal variant that comes with a plug-in hybrid engine configuration.
