A man was caught swimming in the Maumee River, after he caused a five-car accident on Tuesday morning in East Toledo, Ohio.
The crash took place at Miami and Oakdale near the river. Two people were admitted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries — including the swimmer — and another person was not taken to the hospital.
According to the officials, Gregory Anderson, 20, of Ashtabula, was the at-fault party in the crash. After his car came to a stop, he ran down a hill and into the Maumee River which flows from Indiana through Ohio and into Lake Erie.
After that, the Toledo Fire & Rescue water rescue was called in, they found Anderson swimming across the river. He had made it about three-quarters of the way across before he was found and admitted to the hospital.
Anderson has been charged with speeding, persons under the influence of alcohol/drugs, reckless operation, and failing to stop after a collision.
About 65,067 car crashes took place in Ohio in 2018 of which 498 were fatal.
