Driver killed after car hits tree in Plano, Texas

A driver was killed on Monday morning after colliding her car into a tree off northbound Dallas Parkway near Parker Road, Plano, Texas, according to Plano police said.

Witnesses informed police the car had been swerving throughout lanes of traffic before exiting the Dallas North Tollway at the Parker Road ramp at a high rate of speed right before 7:30 a.m., according to a news release from the police department. The car then struck into a tree on the side of the road.

The driver, identified by police as Heather Alayne Hawkins, 33, of Rowlett, was admitted to the hospital, and she was later pronounced dead.

Speed was a factor in this incident and intoxication is suspected with toxicology reports pending, according to police. The incident is being investigating.
