Eight people were injured as two cars crashed in Suomussalmi, Eastern Finland, on Monday.
The accident occurred on highway 5 some 10 kilometres north of the 8,000-resident municipality right before 10 am, as the driver of a south-bound car attempted to overtake a long line of vehicles but failed to get back into their lane before striking head-on into an approaching car.
Police said that the road was slushy and driving conditions were tough at the time of the crash.
Both cars had three passengers together with the driver, with their ages ranging from 15 to 50, according to officials.
Two of the injured people were taken to Oulu University Hospital and six to Kainuu Central Hospital in Kajaani. Two of the patients were later shifted from Kajaani to Kuopio.
