Ferrari is launching its 599 model which is the front engine model form this company. This car has been long awaited for and they are making just 80 samples in total. Bad news is that all 80 of the units have already been sold off even before their launch. The name selected for the car is SA APERTA. This new model is marked to celebrate Pininfarina’s 80th anniversary.
The name has been derived from Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina, to stand for SA initials. While ‘aperta’ is ‘open’ in Italian.
The latest supercar from Maranello does not have the standard tin top that is there on the 599. It also has a low slung windscreen while having two roll bars that maims the seat outlines as also two aerodynamic fins. The lowered height gives the car an aggressive look.
The 599 belongs to the lineage of cars where 575M Superamerica was its predecessor. This model had a rotating central-piece rooftop. The SA APERTA on its turn has a top design which is simple and light. The reason for this design is that the top is meant to be used only when the weather so demands, as per its makers. That is the reason why they did not give much importance to the design of the roof top.
The chassis of the 599 has been reworked to give it added strength. This is in line with the work being done on all coupe models that have been converted into roadsters. The company once again claims that without much increase in overall weight they have been able to give the chassis strength that is near comparable to that of the Berilnetta.
For engine the 599 has a V12 which delivers 670 hp. This is the same engine that is fitted on the GTO model.
