Five people died after their vehicle crashed into a tree outside Hoedspruit in the Mopani district, South Africa in the early hours of Sunday, according to the Limpopo department of transport.
“The driver of a Volkswagen sedan lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and hit a tree. Four people were pronounced dead on the scene and one person was rushed to Tintswalo Hospital but succumbed to their injuries on arrival,” said department spokesperson Matome Moremi Taueatsoala.
Images from the accident scene revealed the mangled remains of the vehicle with a popped airbag.
Investigation into the crash is ongoing. Initial investigations have shown that reckless driving may have been the cause of the crash.
