A used car lot building in Perrysburg, Ohio has become victim to arson fire. The damage has been estimated to more than $100,000.
“I would say probably more than that. The building and the contents are a total loss,” said Tom Brice, the Chief of The Perrysburg Township Fire Department.
The building is situated at 8232 Fremont Pike is on the former used car lot leased by Harrigan Family Automotive. The fire chief stated the owners of the business were on their way of vacating the premises.
It was during Sunday, June 14, 2020, at about 2:14 AM, the pole barn and about 4 or 5 vehicles inside went up in flames, the chief said.
“We were out there for a few hours,” said Chief Brice. “It’s not a real big building, but like I said it was pretty much fully involved when we got there. There are no hydrants in that area, so we had to shuttle water in. And so, it took a little bit of time to get it entirely put out.”
There is a sign taped to the door which says “Arson.” State investigators think the fire was no accident.
Cases of arson in the US have increased since riots and demonstrations have spread in the United States after a cop was caught on tape with his knee on the neck of a man later identified as George Floyd.
A $5,000 reward would be provided to the person who can help investigators in finding the suspects involved in this case of arson. Investigators are urging people to contact Perrysburg Township Police or Fire, the State Fire Marshal, or the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office regarding the incident.
