A Fort Campbell soldier who was just been attacked by bees passed away attempting to flag down a car on Highway 41A in Pleasant View early Monday morning, as per Jeff Landis, an investigator with the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office.
Austin McGeough, 21, was attempting to hail a car to take him home after a party, Landis stated. “He leaned out too far, and his knee struck the front bumper,” Landis stated.
McGeough’s body was spun around, and his head struck the car, killing him.
Landis said the motorist then pulled over and attempted to stop traffic, but 2 other cars that were coming from the other direction ran over McGeough’s body.
The investigator stated he learned from a “extremely trustworthy source” that McGeough had actually been mixing alcohol and crushed Percocet that he had been offered for a surgical treatment he had to eliminate his wisdom teeth.
McGeough pleaded guilty to public intoxication in February, as per Montgomery County court records.
A toxicology test had not been carried out as of Monday night.
Prior to his death, McGeough had gotten into the Pleasant View Nursery on Highway 41A. Landis hypothesized that McGeough was not trying to break in “to cause mischief,” but was rather “so disoriented” that he believed the nursery was the location of the party he had just come from.
Landis told that McGeough reached through a broken window covered in cardboard to unlock the back entrance of the nursery and put his hand through a wasp nest that had been constructed behind the cardboard.
McGeough called 911 and informed the operator he was being chased. Fifteen minutes after cops received that call, they got a call that a pedestrian had been hit on Highway 41A, Landis stated.
At that time, McGeough got in the nursery and “trashed the inside,” as per Wendy Young, who was assisting to clean up the nursery. Young told that McGeough had consumed leftover pizza and used the bathroom.
Landis stated McGeough made a call to his girlfriend to inform her he had gotten stuck under a rack that he had knocked over. Eventually, McGeough freed himself and walked out the front door towards the highway.
Highway 41A was closed from 4 a.m. up until noon, Landis included.
